Árni Freyr will be the coach of Fylki
Sigfús Örn Guðmundsson • October 16, 2024

The Fylki Football Association has hired Árni Frey Guðnason as the coach of the Fylki men's team for the next three years. Árni Freyr, who will start work next month, is well known to Fylki fans after having played with the Fylki team with a good reputation in the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Árni Freyr played a total of almost 100 games in the two top divisions of football in Iceland in his time and in those games he scored a total of 38 goals.

Árni , who is 38 years old, has been the coach of the men's championship team at ÍR in recent years and has achieved very notable success there . In the fall of 2023, ÍR earned the right to compete in the Long League. The ÍR team finished in fifth place in the Long League this summer and earned the right to participate in the finals for a vacant place in the Best League, where the team was eliminated by the Keflavík team. Before Árni took over coaching at ÍR, he had been the head coach of the junior teams at his parent club, FH, for years.

Björn Viðar Ásbjörnssson, chairman of the men's championship team at Fylkir: " We have high expectations for Árni Frey's work for Fylkir. It is no secret that the outcome of the season that has just ended is a great disappointment to us Fylkir people, but at the same time we are determined to turn our backs on each other and build a strong Fylkir team on the good foundation that exists in Árbæn. We will learn from what has been done and look forward to the future . "

Árni Freyr Guðnason, newly appointed Fylki coach: " It is a great honor for me to return to Fylki and to now have the opportunity to coach the Fylki team. My assessment is that there is a lot of momentum in the team and with hard work and ambition as a guiding principle, I am convinced that we will deliver good performance in the future. Here in Árbær, the conditions are exemplary and I look forward to starting work for Fylki. "

The County Football Association thanks the Football Association of Iceland for their professional communication in connection with this appointment.
