Kristján Gylfi • November 15, 2024

The Icelandic Football Association has hired Kristófer Sigurgeirsson as assistant coach of the men's championship team alongside Árni Frey Guðnason, the coach of the Icelandic Football Association. In addition to taking on the role of assistant coach of the championship team, Kristófer will handle other tasks for the Icelandic Football Association, including in the field of performance training. Kristófer played 211 games in the top two divisions of football, scoring 27 goals. Kristófer played most of these games under the banner of the Breiðablik youth club, but he also played with Fram and Fjölnir. Kristófer, who has a KSÍ A qualification, has extensive experience in the field of coaching championship teams, including at Breiðablik but also as coach of the men's team Leiknir R. in the second-highest division. Last season, Kristófer was assistant coach of the women's team Víkingur R. in the Besta deild.

Ragnar Páll Bjarnason, chairman of the Fylkir Football Department: "We are very excited about Kristófer's appointment, both for what directly relates to the coaching of the championship team, together with Árni Frey, but also for other projects such as the performance work that we continue to develop with us. We at Fylkir will continue to emphasize a strong framework and excellent coaching and look forward to the fight ahead under the leadership of our new team.".

Kristófer Sigurgeirsson, newly appointed assistant coach of Fylki: "The facilities at Fylki are exemplary and there is a lot of material available in Árbæn. There is also a lot of support for the team from Árbæn which always makes it more fun to attend the stadium. On this strong foundation of Fylki and a targeted strategy, we will build and quickly get back among the best. I am also looking forward to working with Árni Frey and the team around the team and all the motivated people who are involved in football here every day. There are challenging tasks ahead for Árbæn in the coming seasons and it is good to see that the strategy is set high here."
