The Fylkis area, and indeed the entire Árbæjarhverfið, was bustling with life on the weekend of October 16th and 17th when the Fylkis Children and Youth Council (BUR) hosted the Mjólkurbikarmót for juniors. In total, more than 200 teams of players from the 7th and 6th grades of boys and girls participated. Games were played on 14 fields where we used the main field and the grass field to bring it all together. The game was played tirelessly between 9 and 17 on both Saturday and Sunday and it is fair to say that the event was a huge success. A total of approximately 1500 players participated over the weekend and parents followed, which explains why there was no legal parking anywhere near the Fylkis area.

Of course, we would have appreciated slightly better weather, but everything went well and the joy of playing simply shone from the faces of the participants.

The first weekend in October, another similar tournament was held, and it was a 5th category for men and women. That tournament also went very well with the participation of approximately 800 practitioners. Now in October, we have welcomed a total of approximately 2300 participants and probably around 5000 guardians and it is our belief that with this tournament we have built a foundation for more tournaments of the same nature in the coming years. Here is a new project that first started 2 years ago, Covid had its impact but now we are well back on the map with this new initiative that both has enormous social value for Fylkir in addition to generating important income.

These tournaments are truly huge projects that BUR has led, but the implementation went well because the preparations were extremely well done. Volunteers from BUR, parent councils, County employees and relevant coaches have done a great job at these tournaments both in the preparation and during the implementation itself.
