Statement of support from the Icelandic Football Association for Ásgeir Ásgeirsson, former KSÍ board member

Following the KSÍ annual congress held on February 26th and the discussion that took place at the congress itself, as well as the discussion in the run-up to the congress that extends back to the fall of 2021, on gender-based and sexual violence, the County Football League would like to make the following known:

It was a blessing for the County Football League and the club as a whole when Ásgeir Ágeirsson gave himself the opportunity to work for the league, first on the Children and Youth Council, later as chairman of the men's championship council and then for many years as chairman of the league along with a seat on the general board.

In addition to these positions, Ásgeir later gave himself the opportunity to hold positions of trust for football in Iceland, both as chairman of ÍTF (Íslensks Toppfótbolta) and elsewhere . From 2019, Ásgeir sat on the board of KSÍ until he resigned from the board at the end of August 2021 after ÍTF , the chairmen of ÍTF member clubs as well as several members from the lower leagues had urged the board and general manager of KSÍ to take responsibility .

We regret that the subsequent course of events was directed personally against Ásgeir and other general board members of KSÍ , as they were supposed to have knowledge of events that they did not. In this context, special attention is paid to the report of the ÍSÍ audit committee, which conducted an audit of KSÍ's response and proceedings regarding sexual violence cases involving players in the Icelandic national teams. The final report of the audit committee was presented on December 7, 2021 , where, among other things, it was clearly stated that the general board members of KSÍ were not aware of the issues discussed in the report and the KSÍ board was therefore cleared of the allegations made against it (Kastljós December 9, 2021) .

All the work that Ásgeir has undertaken at the Fylkir level over the years has been carried out with great diligence, integrity and selflessness. We are sure that the same applies to all his contributions to Icelandic football, including his work at the KSÍ level. We want to make it clear that Ásgeir enjoys the full and unrestricted trust of the Fylkir Football Association and it is our hope that Icelandic football will continue to benefit from his strong work force in the future.

The County Football League would like to conclude by stating that we reject all violence in any form and that we support victims.

Respectfully,

Former County Football League

Arnar Thor Jonsson, Chairman
