Dear parents and guardians,
On Wednesday 6.11 at 19:00, the annual youth referee course will take place in Fylkishall, organized by KSÍ. The course is intended for practitioners, coaches, parents/guardians and anyone interested in trying out refereeing. Practitioners from the junior year in the 3rd grade and up, may attend the course. The course is in two parts. The first part is from 19:00 – 21:00 on 6.11 and a week later there is a short exam that must be passed to gain qualifications as a youth referee.
Junior referees are qualified to officiate in category 4 and as assistant referees up to category 2. Please note that KSÍ also offers a district referee course, which gives the right to officiate in all categories. There is no participation fee for the courses.
Every year, approximately 200 home games are played in the County's junior divisions, which need to be staffed with a referee and assistant referee for each game. There are therefore plenty of tasks for interested referees, but in recent years, the refereeing officiating by the County has been exemplary, cf. the recognition for refereeing that the club received at the 72nd annual meeting of the Icelandic Football Association (KSÍ) in 2018. Practitioners in the 2nd and 3rd divisions of KVK and KK mostly take on the role of assistant referees, but it is important to get more people to the table who can take on the role of main referee.
In order for us to continue this good work, it is important to get more parents/guardians to serve as referees, and we therefore encourage everyone to attend the course. The benefits of serving as referees include:
- Fun exercise in good company.
- Those who complete the exam and referee 15 games receive a KSÍ referee certificate which grants free access to all games in Iceland – League, Cup and national games.
- Court services are paid for by the County according to a fee schedule.
- Those interested can then apply to referee games at KSÍ and many referees on behalf of the County have done so.
- A good way to get to know the company's activities better and its practitioners.
We hope that as many people as possible will register for the course and please share this as widely as possible.
Registration is done through Halldór Steinsson, the County Sports Representative. doristeins@fylkir.is
